We sell unique, child friendly teaching resources to give children back their love of learning. Education has become very test driven, with many resources in a 'test format' . This can become very uninspiring for learners and be a cause for lack of motivation and enthusiasm. At Applefortheteacher, we create teaching resources to give children the skills they need academically, socially and emotionally, whilst encouraging that important 'love of learning'. Inspiring learners to thrive!

Animal sounds activity SEN

This is a lovely activity for children with Special Educational Needs working below the national curriculum. There are illustrations and photographs of animals. The children can listen to the sounds of the animals which an adult can play on the computer or make the sounds themselves, the children can then point to the animal that would make that particular sound. Can also be used to encourage children to name the animals, or point to animals when prompted by name.

Sound and picture match activities SEN EYFS

These gorgeous activities support children with special educational needs and children who are just beginning to recognise words and letters. Some children can often find looking at letter and word shapes and matching them to images a much more logical way of learning to read. Both of these activities can be used as support with phonics based activities or word work. They can be laminated and used over and over if required.

A fantastic tried and tested activity. This has been used with learners with Special Educational Needs who struggled with the phonics phases. They grasped the initial letter sounds by the shapes of letters and words, using images to support. Laminate the sound boards, images and letter sounds. Select a sound board, choose a picture then sound out what can be seen and find the initial letter sound to complete the word. 15 different sound boards included. Great for children with SEN working below or on the early National Curriculum. Also suitable for EYFS and KS1 learners. Putting children at the core of their learning…

This is a great tried and tested activity to support learners with SEN who struggle with phonics. Seeing the letter shapes and having a visual of the picture and the whole word can often lead to great results. Laminate the word boards and the letters and allow learners to select the correct letters to match the word. A great first step in reading and writing for children working at P levels.

Grammar sentence building KS1 game

This is a brilliant, engaging game for young learners. Remember the game of writing a word and folding your paper over then passing to a partner to write the next part? Or is that just me? This is a similar game to that (instructions are included). This game has been tried and tested with many children, children in Year 1, Year 2 and children higher up in KS2 who find sentence building difficult. After playing this game a few times, the pieces begin to fit together. Why make it difficult? Putting the love in learning, we put the children at the centre of everything we create…

Can also be used for children to write their own captions for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. A fabulous resource to inspire creative writing and thoughts.

Early comprehension Activities

This is a great bundle of comprehension activities for children who are not able to write legibly, but are able to read. In order to assess reading and comprehension skills we need to check their understanding. These activities are brilliant for doing just that. The activities encourage children read the story / instructions and then find the sentences/pictures to stick in the correct places to show the answers. Other sheets encourage looking at pictures or reading information to find clues and children can make a mark on the answers they believe to be correct. A great activity for children with Special Educational Needs who find writing a struggle.

This is a gorgeous collection of resources to support teaching of traditional stories with a twist. This story is inspired by ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, but it has been changed to show children that certain parts of stories can be changed, to create their own versions. Fake News Activities KS2

These are great educational resources aimed at upper KS2 learners. Fake news is an area of literacy that is now becoming more and more an issue. Stories are being shared on social media and people are unsure of what is true and what is fake. Here you will find a poster giving strategies to help children to remember to think before trusting what they are reading. There is also a checklist which they can use to help them to decide if a story is from a trusted source. Finally there is a really good game which children will really enjoy, reading headlines as they move along the game board deciding which are real and which are fake. Alliteration Ice Cream Parlour Powerpoint and Activity KS1

(0)
We love this activity, teaching alliteration in a fun way, first watch the fun alliteration powerpoint presentation which explains how to create alliterative sentences with Izzy and Ian. Then complete an activity independently. Izzy and Ian need some help to create their exciting, often not traditional ice cream flavours. But the catch is every flavour has to feature alliteration. Follow the steps to create a creative menu to give a flavour to suit every taste. Putting the love in learning one download at a time.

Design a Story KS1 Writing

These are great activities to help children to build the key points to their story. Roll the dice to work out what their story is going to be about, then let creativity begin. One ‘design a story’ activity has a Superhero them to help with superhero story writing, then other has a range of different characters. These provide a great support to children to help them with ideas, they also support children in keeping focused on the direction of their writing.
